Al Shipley commented on "Blender" Would Like To Remind You That It Really Enjoys Lil Wayne's Music, at 2:30 PM on Nov 21 @T'Challa: Ponytail instead of Deerhunter is one of the things they got right. more »

Al Shipley commented on "Blender" Would Like To Remind You That It Really Enjoys Lil Wayne's Music, at 2:12 PM on Nov 21 @Tauwan: Yeah, there were really just tons of very good R&B albums this year, and Usher was simply not one of them. more »

Al Shipley commented on Swift Kick: For Country's New Teen Megastar, Every Song's A Hit, at 2:04 PM on Nov 21 I still have no idea how that Incubus single sprang to life after a 2-year-old album ceased promotion over a year ago. more »

Al Shipley commented on "Blender" Would Like To Remind You That It Really Enjoys Lil Wayne's Music, at 12:11 PM on Nov 21 @2ironic4u: Well, FOB is reviewed in the same issue, so I'm guessing they got an advance of that (possibly before the release date was pushed back) whereas presumably they did not have an advance of GNR prior to the leak. Nice that they fit the Jeezy and Saadiq albums down at the bottom there. more »

Al Shipley commented on How To Navigate Through Next Week's Glutted Release Schedule: Let's Play A Game Of Buy/Download/Kill, at 12:07 PM on Nov 21 Haha this is an awesome idea, should be a running feature. Buy: GNR, LudaDownload: Kanye (because I don't want to encourage him)Kill: Killers and everything else more »

Al Shipley commented on Yesterday, Al wondered why, at 10:40 AM on Nov 21 @2ironic4u: Given that the audience numbers for their "Rock" chart are at least twice as much as any other individual rock chart, I'm guessing it's just a big catchall chart for all the different rock formats (active, alternative, triple A, etc.) more »

Al Shipley commented on What Really Led To "Chinese Democracy"'s Impending Release?, at 10:08 AM on Nov 21 "an overall sense of a lack of respect by management for the band and crew and each individual's particular expertise" I love this quote so much. more »

Al Shipley commented on Yesterday, Al wondered why, at 3:46 PM on Nov 20 That Shinedown songs feels like it's going to be huge and inescapable, though, I already feel like I hear it more often than anything else on the chart. Still so in love with the Axl Zwinky. more »

Al Shipley commented on "Shhhh-it!": Idolator's Super-Secret Music Interview Series Is Online, at 1:20 PM on Nov 20 Haha yeah there was much to agree with here, especially re: publicists. more »

Al Shipley commented on Mudvayne And Rob Zombie Prove That Corpsepaint Rock Also Sells, at 3:59 PM on Nov 19 @2ironic4u: Yeah, in some ways rock radio is the last vestige of the old model in that way, bands can still milk a hit for 3-6 months in a way that pop singers and rappers just can't anymore. more »

Al Shipley commented on Mark Hoppus Cranks The Blink-182 Rumor Mill, at 11:54 AM on Nov 19 Don't hate on "Down," that was totally one of their best songs. more »

Al Shipley commented on Scott Weiland Is Just Having A Rough Time Of It, at 12:14 PM on Nov 18 Wow, Axl and Weiland are both releasing their crap next week? more »

Al Shipley commented on Beyoncé Bares Just A Little Piece Of Her Soul, at 11:39 AM on Nov 18 jesus, that LAT thing with the Obama angle is some grade A hackery. more »

Al Shipley commented on Do The Roots Think That Listening To Jimmy Fallon's "Comedy" Is More Appealing Than Grinding It Out On The Road?, at 6:57 PM on Nov 17 @Job: Lots of talk show house bands have singers or guest singers perform with them when they do full songs during the longer commercial breaks, so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't have Black Thought or any other MCs with them on Late Night. more »

Al Shipley commented on Nickelback: Are These Reviews Even Going To Matter In The Long Run?, at 1:57 PM on Nov 17 @2ironic4u: Haha I never really thought about it but you've got a point! more »

Al Shipley commented on So Paul McCartney wants to, at 12:09 PM on Nov 17 Recording over John Lennon demos from well after the band broke up was a "George Lucas move." Releasing something the band actually recording while they were together that might show a different side of the band is a great idea and something they should've done ages ago, whether it turns out to be shitty or not. more »

Al Shipley commented on Nickelback: Are These Reviews Even Going To Matter In The Long Run?, at 10:44 AM on Nov 17 @2ironic4u: I'm pretty sure any rock band whose last album sold 5+ million gets at least 3 stars from RS. more »

I thought you might be interested in this for your Corporate Rock column: Atlanta's 99x is going off the air in two weeks and most of the DJs were fired over the weekend. It's supposedly staying on as an online / HD station. http://www.accessatlanta.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/accessatlanta/radiotalk/entries/2008/01/11/111_leslie_fram.html Whatever happens, it's a huge blow for modern rock in the Southeast, as 99x was the "tastemaker" station for a long time.
